West Point Thoroughbreds and Domeyko Taylor’s Sorcerer’s Silver, a promising 3-year-old son of Good Magic from the Dale Roman’s barn, romped home a seven-length winner Thursday afternoon at Gulfstream Park to remain undefeated in two starts.
Sent to the post as the heavy 1-5 favorite in a first level, $50,000 optional claiming for Florida-breds going six furlongs, Sorcerer’s Silver shot to the lead from post two and led down the backstretch before longshot Aero Star took a momentary lead while finishing the first quarter mile in :22.50. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. sent Sorcerer’s Silver after the leader around the turn then took command at the five-sixteenths pole before drawing off to win easily in 1:09.29 on the fast track.
Sorcerer’s Silver, who is Triple Crown nominated, broke his maiden against fellow Florida-breds by eight-and-a-quarter lengths at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 1, earning an 84 Beyer number.
West Point purchased Sorcerer’s Silver for $130,000 out of Steven Venosa’s SGV Thoroughbreds consignment at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old in training sale and he is also a graduate of Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company. Dilliga Stables took him for $45,000 out of the Darsan consignment at the 2023 OBS October Yearling Sale.
