A Florida-bred colt by freshman sire Silver State was among two juveniles to work an eighth mile in :9.80 while a Florida-bred colt by Maclean’s Music was one of two to breeze a :20.40 quarter mile Friday during the under tack show previewing next week’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training. Friday was the penultimate day of under tack works as Hips 1036 – 1207 will breeze Saturday at the OBS Training Center beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The Spring Sale will run Tuesday through Friday next week with each session starting at 10:30 a.m. Hips 1 – 302 will sell Tuesday while Hips 303 – 604 will go on the auction block Wednesday. Auctioneers will sell Hips 605-907 on Thursday and Hips 907 – 1207 Friday.

The Silver State colt, Hip 903, is consigned by Envision Equine as agent and is out of the Distorted Humor mare Comic, a half-sister to stakes-producer Fingerprint. Bred in Florida by English Range Farm, the colt is from the family of Kentucky Derby-winner Super Saver and Grade 3-winner and successful Florida sire Brethren.

 

Also clocking a :9.80 furlong was Hip 1011, a bay filly by first crop sire Yaupon out of the stakes-winning mare Efforting, by Into Mischief. Consigned by Rivera Training and Sales as agent, the colt is from the family of Grade 3-winner and stakes-producer Ballad of Bertie.

Hip 1017, a Florida-bred colt by Maclean’s Music – ©Judit Seipert

Hip 1017 is a Florida-bred colt by Maclean’s Music that clocked a :20.40 quarter mile from Hoppel LLC as agent consignment. The colt is out of Embur’s Zip, by City Zip and his second dam is multiple Grade 3-winner and Canadian champion older mare Embur’s Song. Bred in Florida by Bridlewood Farm, the colt is from the family of multiple Grade 1-winner Exaggeration and his half-brother, Cut the Dust, by Not This Time, sold to Pin Oak Stud for $300,000 at the 2023 Fasig Tipton Kentucky July Sale of selected yearlings. 

“He’s a really pretty horse,” Hoppel said of Hip 1017. “I see the Maclean in him, but I also see a lot of City Zip. I like that City Zip attitude. He has a very ‘game on’ mentality. I think he’s a precocious horse who is really talented. I anticipate having a good sale.”

 

Hip 875 also worked a quarter mile in :20.40 from the consignment of Hoppel LLC as agent. The bay colt is by freshman sire Yaupon out of the Scat Daddy mare Chestnut Street, a half-sister to stakes-winner Saratoga Snacks, Grade 3-placed Rajman and multiple stakes-producer Speed Dating.
