A Florida-bred colt by Pleasant Acres Stallions’ first crop sire Leinster was among eight 2-year-olds to work a bullet :9.80 eighth mile Monday during the second of seven days of under tack works previewing the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training.
The OBS Spring Sale will run four days next week—Tuesday, April 15 through Friday, April 18—with each session starting at 10:30 a.m. Each under tack show will start at 8:00 a.m. through Saturday, April 12.
The quick Leinster colt, Hip 332, is consigned by David McKathan’s Grassroots Training & Sales, who had three other 2-year-olds work :9.80 furlongs Monday.
The colt is out of Renovation, by Alternation, a half-sister to Grade 3-winner Hierro; Grade 3-placed, stakes-winner Cherokee Triangle, stakes-placed Sam’s Bliss; and True Bliss, the dam of Grade 3-winning Florida-bred R Harper Rose. The colt was bred in Florida by Charles Weston and Robert Vickers.
Leinster also made news Sunday with his first winner, Lennilu, a Florida-bred filly out of Lulu’s Pom Pom, by Pomeroy, who won maiden special weight at Keeneland.
Trained by Patrick Biancone for owner Amy E. Dunne, Lennilu won the four-and-a-half-furlong test by a length in :52.32 over the sloppy and sealed track. Ridden to victory by Luis Saez, she went off at 5-2 and paid $7.50 to win.
Kadabra was second with Chambourcin third.
Bred in Florida by Helen and Joseph Barbarzon, Lennilu earned $34,115.
