Spirited Boss Makes Stakes Debut

BY BROCK SHERIDAN

Although Mrs Worldwide is a two-time stakes winner on dirt, trainer Brian Lynch may have further improved the Florida-bred filly when he decided to run her on the turf for the first time in her last race.

Second to Vixen in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride going a mile on the grass on March 1, Mrs Worldwide returns to stakes action on the Gulfstream Park turf Saturday in the $165,000 Sanibel Island. Set for seven-and-a-half furlongs, the Sanibel Island has 10 3-year-old fillies. Included in the purse is $15,000 in bonus money for Florida-breds presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.

Mrs Worldwide and jockey Luis Saez sat four lengths off the early pace in the Herecomesbride then battled with Vixen and Daisy Flyer down the stretch. The three fillies crossed under the finish line in tandem with Vixen a neck in front of Mrs Worldwide and Daisy Flyer another head back in third.

Mrs Worldwide earned an 80 Beyer Speed figure for the runner-up effort, eight points higher than her previous career best when winning the $65,000 Juvenile Fillies Sprint against Florida-bred fillies going six-and-a-half furlongs at Gulfstream in November.

Following the Juvenile Fillies Sprint, Lynch sent her to Tampa Bay Downs where she captured the $75,000 Sandpiper at six furlongs on Dec. 7. She returned to Tampa Bay for her first start this year but was fourth in the $82,000 Gasparilla won by Dancing Magic.

Mrs Worldwide has won three of eight career starts with a second and two thirds while earning $171,850 for owners Flying Dutchmen Breeding and Racing LLC.

She was a $100,000 purchase by Boardshorts Stables at the 2024 Ocala Breeders’ Sales March Sale where she was consigned by Dynasty Thoroughbreds.
