Resentless looks for the winning angle in Saturday's $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Woodbine.
Owned by Donald Ross and trained by Ian Howard, the two-year-old daughter of Trajectory, has picked up a check in each of her three starts to date, including a fourth-place finish in her most recent race, the Mazarine Stakes (G3), contested at 1 1/16-miles at Woodbine on Oct. 10.
"I was happy with the result," said Howard. "She dug in at the head of the lane and battled. Nobody was going to beat the winner (Breeders' Cup hopeful Biofuel) that day."
Resentless launched her career on Aug. 7 in a 5 ½-furlong race at Woodbine. Sent off at 2-1, the Ontario-bred finished third, four lengths back at the wire. She came back three weeks later and broke her maiden in a seven-furlong contest.
"To be honest, I'd thought she'd run better than she did" Howard said. "But you have to put it in perspective. It was her first start and you really never know what will happen. She had trained well coming into the race and tried hard."
It's only the filliy's second time around two turns, but Howard doesn't feel it will be a problem.
"I suppose the answer will come after Saturday," he said. "I think she'll go two turns, but we'll just have to wait and see. This race should tell us a little more. She's not one of the horses where you can drop the bit and she can pick it up again. She has talent and she trains well. If she can't go two turns, we can make her a sprinter."
